What does Solacia mean?

Pronunciation: so-LAH-see-uh

solace (noun: comfort or consolation in a time of distress or sadness) + ia (being in a state of) = Solacia. It is also the plural form of the Latin word Sōlācium meaning comfort, solace, relief, and consolation. Therefore, Solacia refers to multiple instances of comfort, solace, relief, or consolation.

This evolution marks our expansion to be more inclusive of other future healthcare documents, not just DNRs, to offer simple and accessible advance care planning resources, and a more personalized and holistic approach to future healthcare planning in order to provide peace of mind, comfort and relief, allowing you to live life fully and worry free.

Solacia's Mission:

To empower individuals to easily navigate the future healthcare planning process with peace of mind, control, and simplicity by providing clear resources and compassionate support services to simplify the process, ensuring your wishes are honored and making it easy to plan for the unknown future.

Understanding your Tomorrow, Today.

We are dedicated to ensuring your final wishes are heard and honored.

The Problem

Document location and retrieval should be easy and simply, right? When these documents (DNR/POLST/Advance Directive) are needed in a timely fashion, especially in an emergency, it's paramount they are easy to find.

- Electronic Health Records are difficult to access quickly, take digital proficiency, and can have major bugs

- There is no standardized placement for these future healthcare documents

- The emotional distress of stressful situations makes it even more difficult to locate hidden documents

- This vital medical information is often scattered across different healthcare providers and systems, hindering quick access

- Reliance on others to locate a document only you know it's location is cause for an impossible task

- Medical staff or EMS must act quickly and if they can't quickly find your documents, digital or not, you may not get the care you desire

The Data

- One study found that advance directives were not found for 87% of patients who had one (1).

- In an Upper Valley study, only 20% of advance directives were accessible by healthcare systems (2).

- Advance care plans were missing for close to 80% of Emergency Department patients whose primary doctors belonged to the same hospital system (3).

- When asked where Advance Care Plans could be found, patients reported: 37% said at home, 17% said with family, 15% said with PCP at hospital, 6% said in a safety deposit box.

- Fewer than 1/3 of emergency room physicians reported they felt confident they could locate patients' advance directives within the EHR when they exist (4).

Every moment spent searching for missing or inaccessible documents is the difference between timely, informed care and irreversible consequences for you or your loved ones.

Seeing it daily on my door reminds me of the preciousness of the day!

- Patti M.

I received my kit today and I am very impressed with the quality of the kit. As someone who lives alone and has health issues, it is reassuring to know my end-of-life wishes will be available for emergency responders if I am unable to clearly communicate my wishes myself.

- Nancy B.

With the kit prominently displayed on our entrance door, first responders would have no trouble knowing our preference for treatment. The kit is attractive and hard to miss.
